There is nothing more spectacular to see than a Bee Eater swooping in a big loop to catch a dragonfly, then bash it on a stick to kill it before flipping it the right way round and then swallowing it.
Blue Tailed Bee Eaters are probably the most common of Malaysia’s Bee Eaters and can usually be found in the vacinity of rice paddy fields where swarms of dragonflies are easy meals. The great thing about these birds is that it’s usually possible to encroach close up without them becoming too fussed.
